Coke is a solid carbonaceous residue derived from low-ash, low-sulfur bituminous coal from which the volatile constituents are driven off by baking in an oven without oxygen at high temperatures.

Coke being a derivative of Coal finds application in a wide range of industries and as an important chemical reagent.

The conversion of Coal to coke is a complicated process and requires large plants solely dedicated to this conversion procedure. Saraogi Udyog Pvt. Ltd. is actively involved in the conversion of Coking Coal to Coke. The company has the capacity to convert upto 3 lakh MT of coking coal to coke annually. It is performed at the only merchant coke oven of DPL, Durgapur.
